University Chaplaincy Music Director Position

The Tufts University Chaplaincy invites applications for the position of Music Director, which is a 12-month, part-time, independent contractor position, reporting to the University Chaplain. Primary responsibilities include: working with the Protestant Chaplain and student leaders to coordinate music for and play the organ and/or piano at the weekly Protestant Worship Service on Sunday nights at 7 pm during term; playing the organ and/or piano at and coordinating 6 University Chaplaincy concerts or events per year (e.g., Halloween Organ Recital, Winter Holiday Concert, and four others); playing organ and/or piano for memorial services on campus as needed; changing the carillon tune regularly as requested and ringing its bells for university events; overseeing the care and maintenance of the University Chaplaincy’s musical instruments; and recruiting and coordinating other instrumentalists and vocalists as needed. Required qualifications include: demonstrated ability to develop musical programming with religious leaders and young adults using a student empowerment approach, and demonstrated ability to develop musical programming in a diverse and vibrant multifaith and/or multicultural environment. The Music Director may also play organ and/or piano at wedding ceremonies on campus for additional fees.
