Spring into Islam is an annual series of events the Muslim Students Association organizes to increase Islamic awareness on campus and combat stereotypes. Check out the main Facebook event here to stay up to date.
Here’s the rundown of what to look forward to in the next few weeks:
Workshop led by Dr. John Robbins
Friday, February 12, Interfaith Center (58 Winthrop St.)
Workshop led by Dr. John Robbins, the executive director of CAIR-MA, on Quelling Fear and Dispelling Hate. This program will be held immediately after Jummah at 2 pm.
Ask a Muslim!
Wednesday, February 17, Noon-1:30 pm
We will be hosting our “Ask a Muslim!” Stand at the campus center from 12 – 1:30 pm. There will be tons of candy, information and cool people to hang out with, check out the Facebook event here.
Interfaith Jumaah
Friday, February 19, 12:30 pm, Interfaith Center (58 Winthrop St.)
The Muslim Student Association is hosting an Interfaith Jumaah at the Interfaith Center. Jumaah is the weekly Friday prayer service offered by Muslims. It consists of a short sermon that lasts about 15-20 minutes, and is followed by two units of prayer that take about 5 minutes.This event is part of our Spring into Islam programming and hopes to connect all of the faith groups on campus. We will begin at 12:30 pm with discussion and socializing over light refreshments and snacks. Weekly Jumaah prayer service will then begin at 1:15 pm with a sermon, khutbah, and followed by the congregational prayer. All are welcome.
Islam 101
Wednesday, February 24, 6 pm, Interfaith Center (58 Winthrop St.)
This amazing program will take place at 6 pm at the Interfaith Center and dinner will be served. As our main event, Islam 101, serves to educate the Tufts Community about our religion, practices and beliefs. There will also be plenty of time for discussion and questions, for more details make sure to look at the Facebook event.
Building the Jetpac: Increasing Minority Participation in Electoral Politics
Friday, February 26, 2-4 pm, Interfaith Center (58 Winthrop St.)
Nadeem Mazen, Massachusetts’ first elected Muslim official, is excited to announce Jetpac Inc., a new nonprofit dedicated to increasing involvement of minority groups in the democratic process. This workshop-style event is a chance for the community to be a part of the publication process of a ‘campaign playbook’. The playbook, an exhaustive campaign curriculum, outlines everything you need to know to run for office—and win. The democratic process should serve the community, and Jetpac Inc. is involving the community from day one. Come along to help “build the Jetpac” and learn not only how this organization can change the national political conversation, but how you can help them. The event is sponsored by the Tufts Muslim Chaplaincy. For more information, click here.
Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans: Race and Islam
Thursday, March 3, 7 pm, Granoff Hall Room 155
The Muslim Student Association will be hosting Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans for a discussion about Race and Islam. Ubaydullah Evans is the first Scholar-in-Residence for the American Learning Institute for Muslims and resides in Chicago. Join us at 7 pm in Granoff Hall Room 155 for this informational night. Calligraphy Night
