Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far. In coming months, we’ll be starting a couple programs that we hope to expand throughout the year, particularly those that help students and community members get involved in local values-based service. Partnering with the Humanist Community at Harvard’s Values in Action program, we’ll be organizing a series of interfaith community service events in July and August, open to everyone including and especially members of the Tufts community from all religious and nonreligious backgrounds.

Our first program will be an interfaith cleanup of Central Square, in partnership with the City of Cambridge Public Works department. Central is a vibrant, densely populated part of Cambridge whose vibrant nightlife both contributes to a lot of waste and mess on the sidewalks and makes regular cleanup in the area difficult. The City of Cambridge has generously provided us with tools to pick up trash, weed tree wells, wipe off structures, and sweep the sidewalks so that we might make it a healthier and safer place for those who live in the Square, especially those living on the street. We will be meeting on July 5th at 1:30pm at the Humanist Hub (35 JFK St, Cambridge), and all are welcome to join! More information can be found here on the Facebook event.

Later in the summer, we’ll be partnering with CASPAR, a community-based organization serving those affected by homelessness and addiction, to regularly cook meals in their Cambridge shelter. We’ll also be supporting the Humanist Hub in their partnership with ArtLifting, where they’ll be hosting and selling pieces created by homeless and recently homeless community members through an art therapy program. In August, we’ll partner again with the Humanist Hub for another major meal packing project for food insecure families in the greater Boston area.

More information about the upcoming programs will be released in the coming weeks! If you have any questions, as always, feel free to email walker.bristol@tufts.edu. Have a great summer, looking forward to seeing you at any of our summer volunteer projects!
