karenIn our second event in the Faith is a Verb series we will welcome to Tufts activist, organizer and contemplative, Karen Gargamelli. Karen is a co-founder of Common Law, a community lawyering non-profit that strives to “make common” the laws and legal systems that govern, and often oppress, people’s lives. At Common Law she has worked to prevent evictions and foreclosures, drawing attention to the injustices in the court system.  In the spirit of Dorothy Day and the Catholic Workers, she has most recently founded a lay monastic community in New York City, Benicasa, which also serves as a house of hospitality.  Karen is someone who has beautifully woven together her spiritual life, vocation and desire to build, sustain community. We are honored to celebrate her prophetic witness.
