This week, the Buddhist Chaplaincy is honored and delighted to celebrate Native American Heritage Month with Michael Yellow Bird, who will speak on Mindfulness: Decolonizing the Mind. Michael Yellow Bird, MSW, PhD, coauthor of For Indigenous Minds Only and Decolonizing Social Work, is a citizen of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara). He has taught at the University of British Columbia, University of Kansas, Arizona State University, and Humboldt State University.  Michael Yellow Bird currently serves as  Dean and Professor at Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba. He has been active in re-introducing the
practice of mindfulness to Native American and Indigenous communities around the world–and has been practicing meditation and mindfulness for over 40 years..
