Tufts University has a wide variety of courses, programs, and lectures involving Islam and Muslims. Many of the gatherings sponsored by Muslim Chaplaincy focus on cultivating religious learning or celebrating religious holidays. Some gatherings focus on engaging diversity or doing service, and some events help educate about Islam or Muslims in the wider world. We also co-sponsor a considerable number of programs each year.<\/p>\n

Tufts\u2019 Muslims are an open, welcoming, and engaged community.\u00a0Our gatherings are frequented by Muslims of all backgrounds as well as all who are interested in learning more about Islam or in forging connections with Muslims. We partner frequently with other faith and interfaith groups on campus around common interests and to share in special celebrations. We regularly organize initiatives to try to educate against Islamophobia, racism, and other forms of bigotry, and we try to do our part to support important causes and charities to benefit different communities here in Greater Boston and around the globe.<\/p>\n

Join us for a discussion with Ustadh AbdelRahman Murphy as he takes on the topic of love, relationships, and marriage in Islam, especially as it pertains to young Muslims in a college environment. There will be a Q&A after his talk, so come with questions.<\/p>\n

Ustadh AbdelRahman Murphy is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, with a bachelor\u2019s in Teaching of English and Religious Studies. He is currently pursuing his master\u2019s in Mental Health Counseling. He has served as a youth director, Muslim chaplain, and assistant imam in a full-time capacity since 2009. In addition to this he has classically trained in Islamic studies both abroad and in the U.S., and has a long history of working with youth.<\/p>\n

Tufts Vigil for Love and Remembrance<\/h2>\n

Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi\/The Prophet\u2019s Birthday Concert<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Noor Ensemble<\/a>\u00a0will present a program of sacred songs (madih) from Morocco, Syria, and beyond in a concert to commemorate al-mawlid al-nabawi\u2014the anniversary of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Tufts Muslim Chaplain Celene Ibrahim-Lizzio will help to introduce the program.<\/p>\n

Theme:\u00a0 How Qur\u2019anic Stories Illuminate the Foundations of Islamic Piety<\/p>\n

The stories in the Qur\u2019an illustrate essential facets of Islamic character and pious disposition.\u00a0 In this four week study series, we will explore some of these facets vis-\u00e0-vis select Qur\u2019anic passages. The sessions include guided study and discussion and are geared to those aiming to expand their Islamic learning and develop further the virtues and dispositions under study; all are welcome to attend any or all of the sessions. A light diner is provided.<\/p>\n

Qur\u2019an Circles<\/h2>\n

Fridays\u00a0from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm at the Interfaith Center (51 Winthrop St):\u00a0Whether you\u2019ve read the Qur\u2019an once or you read it every day, please come to our weekly Quran Circles. We have been alternating between studying the Qur\u2019an itself and listening to scholars, always followed by discussion. These weekly studies not only provide an opportunity to enhance our knowledge of Islam from authentic sources but also share and discuss ideas with our peers, and no knowledge of Arabic is required. If you are one of those people who plans to read the Qur\u2019an but never does, this is a good incentive. For more info, e-mail Obaid at obaid.farooqui@tufts.edu<\/a><\/p>\n

Jum\u2019ah Prayer<\/h2>\n

Fridays at 1 pm (insha\u2019Allah) at the Interfaith Center (51 Winthrop St): Join us for the Jum\u2019ah prayer, the special prayer that Allah (swt) has ordained obligatory for all men. Jum\u2019ah is open to the sisters too and they are highly encouraged to attend as all are entitled to knowledge. The short khutbah and talk prior to the prayer are delivered by dedicated student volunteers and provide very good reminder for us all.\u00a0For more info,\u00a0e-mail Obaid at obaid.farooqui@tufts.edu<\/a><\/p>\n

Please join us at our 2014 Annual Eid Dinner at the\u00a0Interfaith Center from 6:30 \u2013 10 pm on Friday, October 17. We are very fortunate to have\u00a0Linda Sarsour\u00a0as our guest speaker, talking about \u201cLeadership and Active Citizenship as a Muslim in America.\u201d She was designated as the White House Champion of Change and is the CEO of the Arab American Association of New York. All our welcome to this celebration and hope that you can make it.<\/p>\n
