For the first week of October, the Humanists Against Homelessness<\/a> program run through the Tufts Humanist Chaplaincy will be hosting a week of events to raise awareness of and respond to housing insecurity in the local community. All are welcome to join us for any and all of our programs!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>On Sunday, October 1st, join the Humanist Community at Tufts as we cleanup the area around the Davis Square T station! Davis Square is a part of our greater Tufts neighborhood where many of us spend time and where many folks living on the street or without regular housing access stay and sleep. While we raise money for organizations to do direct intervention, we can also help make our community a cleaner and safer place to spend time by cleaning up some of the trash in the area using tools provided by the Cambridge Department of Public Works. We will meet at\u00a01pm on October 1st on the second floor of the Mayer Campus Center\u00a0<\/strong>to walk over to Davis and clean for an hour.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Join the Humanist Community at Tufts on TUESDAY, October 3, at 7:00pm in Tisch 314<\/strong>\u00a0for a discussion meeting themed around local homelessness and housing justice. They will welcome Somerville Homeless Coalition executive director Mark Alston-Follansbee to discuss housing justice and capitalism<\/a> in Somerville. HCAT’s discussion meetings are weekly opportunities to connect in conversation and reflection on meaningful issues facing the world today and to share pieces of your own story with other folks outside of traditional religion. Though HCAT is an intentional space for nonreligious folks, all are welcome at all their programs no matter your background! \"\"<\/a>Finally, on October 7th<\/strong>, join all of us at the Somerville Homeless Coalition 5k Road Race<\/a>! This is one of the biggest fundraisers SHC does throughout the year, and for several years past Humanists at Tufts have volunteered and fundraised to help make it a success. The race itself can be run or walked on a path that goes through Davis, into Teele Square, down Broadway past Tufts, to Ball Square, and back to Davis. In the past, volunteers have helped set up the program, cheer on and guide runners, and serve food at the catered lunch afterwards. If you would like to run and fundraise with the Tufts Humanists team<\/a>, you can register on the Somerville Homeless Coalition website<\/a> and select our team from the list under Fundraising Team (pictured below).
