Walk through any of the more urban centers near Tufts–Davis Square, Harvard Square, Central Square–and you’ll meet dozens of people and their families living on the street, desperate for food, warm clothing, and housing especially in the impending winter months. In order to support these members of our community, a community we all share whether we live comfortably in on-campus housing or outside on the sidewalk, Humanists and friends at Tufts have for years partnered with the Somerville Homeless Coalition to educate, volunteer, and raise money to fight homelessness.<\/p>\n

\"25d2e6e9-dc76-4182-b585-8a10cb4cd3cf\"<\/a>With the Humanist Community at Tufts student group, we have two events this weekend that will continue that fight. On Saturday, October 1st<\/strong>, students from Tufts will be volunteering to help make possible the Somerville Homeless Coalition 5K Road Race and Fundraiser, including setting up, serving food, and cleaning up after the program. \"Summer<\/a>On Sunday, October 2nd at 11:00am<\/strong>, we’ll meet at the Mayer Campus Center to cleanup an area of town where many of our homeless community members spend time. We’ve partnered with the Cambridge Department of Public Works to continue programs we’ve done in the past cleaning up vulnerable areas near Tufts and hope to continue these programs in the future–they have a major impact on giving back to Tufts’ surroundings.<\/p>\n
