2019 Trans Day of Remembrance Exhibit<\/b><\/h1>\n

Thank you to all our thoughtful applicants. The selected project will be opening at noon on the B-Side hallway of 230 The Fenway on Wednesday, November 20th, the national Trans Day of Remembrance. The project will move to Tisch Library on the Medford campus in early 2020.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The LGBT Center, the University Chaplaincy, the SMFA at Tufts, and the Office of the Provost are cosponsoring the third annual Tufts Trans Day of Remembrance student art project. The project will be a student-directed art exhibit speaking to themes of trans identity, resilience, and celebration, with special attention to the experiences of trans people of color and survivors of transmisogynistic violence. Proposals may, but don\u2019t have to, involve depictions of the thirty-two trans and non-binary people known to have been killed in anti-trans violence since November 2018. We hope to work collaboratively with a student artist in the Tufts and SMFA community to design the project and create the exhibit. The project will be moved to different locations on campus throughout its exhibition and will be accompanied in its various display spaces by trans-affirming resources made available by local organizations that support trans and non-binary wellness, community, and activism. The artist selected will be allotted a $500 budget for materials to create the project and receive a separate stipend of $1000. We expect to begin displaying the project in its first location with an opening reception on Wednesday, November 20th. No formal artist training is required. Trans and non-binary students are strongly encouraged to apply.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To apply, please send (1) a short (~150-200 words) account of your personal interest in being a part of the project, (2) a short proposal of your vision for the exhibit (style of portraits, manner of display, etc) including a rough breakdown of how you expect to use the $500 materials budget, and (3) three examples of portrait\/depiction work that reflect the style you\u2019d bring the project to both Hope Freeman (hope.freeman@tufts.edu<\/a>) and Walker Bristol (walker.bristol@tufts.edu<\/a>) with the subject line \u201cTrans Day of Remembrance Project.\u201d You can also e-mail Hope or Walker with any questions about the project. We will be accepting applications through the end of the day on Wednesday, October 9th<\/sup>.<\/strong> Updates including showing and event times will be posted here.<\/p>\n
