A short history about this work at Tufts<\/span><\/h1>\n

The Africana Spirituality role came about, as with many emergent spheres of change, through student action and organizing. A response to the conditions of social injustice in society, when the spiritual care for students of African descent became apparent, Reverend Greg McGonigle (University Chaplain 2013-2019) and Africana Center Director Katrina Moore initiated this role.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In March 2017 The Rev. <\/span>Lambert Rahming joined the University Chaplaincy in the new position of <\/span>Africana Community Associate.<\/span> Rahming came to Tufts through a partnership with Sanctuary United Church of Christ in Medford, where he was the community minister. He served for about a year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In September 2020, Azmera Hammouri-Davis, MTS served as Africana Spirituality Advisor. She served until September 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2023, Humanist Chaplain Anthony Cruz Pantojas took on leadership of the Africana Spirituality Series. They serve as the main liaison for this work now.<\/p>\n
