JANE BARRY

TEMPORARY CATHOLIC CHAPLAIN

Jane Barry has been appointed Temporary Catholic Chaplain in the Tufts University Chaplaincy for October-December 2016, covering for Catholic Chaplain Lynn Cooper who is on leave.

Jane is a southern California native who came to Boston seven years ago for college and has not left. Jane did both her undergraduate degree and master’s degree in theology and ministry at Boston College. She spent her time as an undergraduate studying educational psychology, art, and history. She also ran the Appalachian Volunteers program, which sends approximately 600 students each year on peer-led service trips through the university campus ministry.

She fell in love with engaging with social justice issues and returned to BC’s School of Theology and Ministry, seeking to continue important conversations about how we are called to work with those at the margins. Her thesis also focused on this topic, using her study of art and photography as an undergraduate to create a gallery accompanying her written work.

In the past few years, Jane has written articles for several publications and has spoken at the Igantian Family Teach-In for Justice, a conference for Jesuit high schools and universities about inclusion in the Catholic Church.

Jane is daughter to Robert and Roberta Barry (yes, this is true), and sister to Megan. She is excited to welcome her first niece into the world soon. Besides being with loved ones, Jane enjoys spending time outdoors, meeting new people, cooking, and taking photos.
