August 2016 Carillon Tune

As the evening news and our twitter feeds seem to tell of violence and terror with increasing frequency this summer, the Goddard Carillon offers a counter message this month: “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.”

This song, penned by the husband and wife team of Sy Miller and Jill Jackson in 1955, was first introduced to a group of purposefully diverse high school students on retreat together in the California mountains. » read

April 2016 Carillon Tune

The carillon tune sounding from Goddard Chapel’s tower this month honors our planet home, in anticipation of Earth Day on April 22nd. “All things bright and beautiful” was first published in 1848 in a collection called Hymns for Little Children.

February Carillon Tune

Goddard Chapel’s carillon presently features the tune “St. Columba.”  The melody is presumed to be an ancient Irish church melody, and received its name from a beloved 6th-century Irish saint credited with spreading Christianity in present-day Scotland.
